Wear a Clown Shirt for Casual Fridays

If you've been trying to find a way to loosen up, become more relaxed, and tone down your perfectionist side, I can think of no better way than this. After all, what says 'I'm fun loving and can be a bit of an idiot sometimes' than wearing a clown shirt to work on Casual Fridays? Unless you work somewhere where 'casual Fridays' means a brown suit instead of a black one, in which case you had better pick up some applications from the clown supply shop at the same time as you pick up your clown shirt. After all, not every boss is going to look favorably on this bold new you.

All joking aside, wearing a clown shirt to, say, the supermarket, can be an incredibly relaxing and releasing experience. You'll feel like an idiot for the first twenty minutes or so, but once you get over that, you start realizing that you are enough your own person to be comfortable and in control when wearing a clown t-shirt. It does wonders for your self esteem. And once you've proven to yourself that you can wear a clown shirt and still be a person, it gives you a chance to express your individuality in other ways, as well.

Additionally, the clown shirt is a wonderful article of apparel to wear to places like the doctor's or the dentists, particularly if you wear the red nose, too. You'll end up getting a chuckle out of other people, and that in turn will cheer you up and relax you no end. Doctors and dentists are only as scary as you make them out to be, and there's no dread so great that wearing a clown shirt and a red nose can't cure it.

Note: this article, especially the first paragraph, is not meant to contain actual career advice. Most bosses, when they call it 'Casual Friday,' do not actually mean that you should be comfortable or individual on that day. If you want to keep your job, you're better off wearing your shirt to the supermarket or the dentist's, and leaving the officewear strictly alone.

Tue, 07 Sep 2010 12:37:00 -0700

It seems that the "Internets" have generated a movement of sorts, calling upon the host of Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report," Stephen Colbert, to hold a "Restoring Truthiness" Rally in Washington D. C. sometime in the near future. The grass roots movement seems to have been born of an idea presented on Reddit to "see Stephen Colbert flip a mirror to the Tea Party and show them just how ...
